Hamilton Locke climbs the ranks in Fintech and Financial Services Regulatory and Capital Markets: Equity

Hamilton Locke moved up the ladder to a Tier 3 ranking in the Fintech and Financial Services Regulatory practice area.

Legal 500 recognised our Fintech and Financial Services Regulatory practice for its ‘deep industry and subject matter expertise’ and our ability to advise across a broad range of capabilities in regulatory, corporate and commercial areas.

Charmian Holmes leads the practice from our Brisbane office and is embedded in the insurance regulation space, while Simon Carrodus has a focus on assisting wealth advisory businesses with navigating financial services law. In our Sydney office, Erik Setio, Jaime Lumsden and Michele Levine are some of the key contacts with Setio praised for his ‘deep expertise in financial services matters, including blockchain technology‘.

“The team has deep industry and subject matter expertise and provide commercially valuable advice. They are responsive and provide fit-for-purpose advice. They have a large set of precedents which helps us get matters up and running quickly.”

On the Capital Markets side, Hamilton Locke is newly ranked in Tier 4 for the Capital Markets: Equity practice area, with recognition of the ‘excellent’ team who ‘frequently goes above and beyond’ for clients.

“The team of Shaun Hardcastle, Deanna Carpenter and Jeremy Newman is excellent and frequently goes above and beyond what is required in the scope of normal legal matters. Always contactable and engaging and deliver out-of-the-box solutions to issues as they arise.”

Hall of Fame: Michael Tooma

New to the Hamilton Locke Partnership and our Head of ESG, Michael Tooma has been inaugurated into Legal 500’s Hall of Fame in the Labour And Employment: Workplace Health And Safety (WHS) category.

Ranking in Banking and Finance, Corporate and M&A, Restructuring & Insolvency

This year, we were ranked in Tier 4 in Banking and Finance practice area. Notably, Partner and Head of Finance Zina Edwards was named as a Next Generation Partner for the second year in a row, highlighting her continued commitment to structuring creative solutions for clients.

“I think Zina Edwards is the best Australian law firm partner. She brings her “A” game to every transaction with a strong focus on the commercial outcomes and tight transaction deadlines. Zina’s knowledge of complex structures and Australian legal principles is invaluable for foreign investors. She has developed a strong bench of capable associates who have delegated authority to act as a team helping manage the transaction.”

Our Corporate and M&A practice team maintained its Tier 4 ranking in 2024 with Legal 500 highlighting the strength of recent hires Justin Fox, Clementyne Rawlyk and Kathryn May, in addition to an already-strong team of Brett Heading, Hal Lloyd and Nick Humphrey.

“Hamilton Locke has always been an extremely reliable local counsel for our firm on Australian matters. They are responsive, sophisticated and commercial, and have been a wonderful source of support for us over the years.”

Maintaining our Tier 5 position for the fourth year running, Legal 500 noted that our Restructuring & Insolvency practice brought a combination of both ‘technical and commercial acumen’ to clients when advising on issues arising from corporate distress.

“Great combination of technical and commercial acumen. They don’t sit on the fence when giving advice. Good turnaround times…”
