Hamilton Locke attracts Michael Tooma and Kiri Jervis as partners, boosting ESG and WHS client offering

Hamilton Locke has welcomed two new partners in Michael Tooma and Kiri Jervis, and their team, marking another major milestone for our Sydney office and growth nationally. They join from Clyde & Co.

Michael is well respected as one of Australia’s leading regulatory and investigation and environment social and governance (ESG) specialists and will head up our ESG practice.

A former Managing Partner of Clyde & Co., Michael has advised clients on ESG related issues for nearly two decades and brings a global perspective and practical understanding of evolving ESG approaches.  Michael also specialises in health and safety law and regulation, including assisting clients with investigations and crisis responses and advising on best practice compliance and policy development.  He has written several books on health and safety and was a member of the Taskforce that developed the world-first Industrial Safety Manifesto in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

Complementing Michael’s experience is Kiri’s practice in workplace relations, regulatory enforcement proceedings and large-scale employment disputes. Bringing a practical approach that is both commercial and aims to improve the workplace, Kiri advises employers on both day-to-day employment related matters as well as a range of strategic, regulatory and risk response matters.

Joining Michael and Kiri are special counsel Melissa Doran and Laura Driscoll, and lawyers Samantha Ryu, Miriam Asar, Nicola Irwin Faulks, Lucy MastersKennan Smith and Jackie Lazar, and graduate Isabel Harrison.

Michael said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Hamilton Locke, which is showing the market what’s possible through prioritising people and culture as the foundation of a great client experience. My team and I look forward to being part of the firm and building on its success as more clients embrace the Hamilton Locke way of law done differently.”

Hamilton Locke Managing Partner Nick Humphrey said: “Attracting Michael and Kiri and their team to our firm is a vote of confidence in what we have to offer as a workplace, and to our clients.  I’ve known Michael for many years, and he shares the same values around culture as well as the entrepreneurial spirit that are the hallmarks of Hamilton Locke. We’re very happy that he, Kiri and their team have chosen to join our firm.”
