Melissa Doran

Melissa is truly a specialist Work Health and Safety (WHS) lawyer, with over 13 years of experience working across advisory and litigious WHS matters.  She has been retained by clients from a wide variety of sectors and has particular expertise in the resources and transport and logistics industries.

Throughout her career, Melissa has acted for both individuals and body corporates in defending WHS prosecutions across Australian jurisdictions.  She works diligently and empathetically to help her clients secure successful outcomes.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Melissa was a Special Counsel at Clyde & Co. She has also worked for several leading global and national law firms, including Norton Rose Fulbright and Clayton Utz.

  • Acting for individuals charged under Work Health and Safety Laws, including successfully resolving matters by way of enforceable undertakings.
  • Acting for a body corporate in the defence of a prosecution under Work Health and Safety Laws arising from a heavy vehicle unloading incident. The matter was successfully resolved part way through the hearing.
  • Conducting investigations following serious workplace incidents for the purposes of providing legal advice and assisting with regulatory interactions.
  • Acting for a transport and logistics company in negotiating an enforceable undertaking in respect of an alleged contravention of the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
  • Acting in coronial inquiries arising from workplace fatalities.
  • Providing due diligence training to private and public sector Boards and executive teams.
  • Advising on safety management systems, including best practice and legislative requirements.
