Conor Bates

Conor is a Consultant on the New Energy Team. Conor leverages his passions for solving complex legal problems and supporting the energy transition to consistently deliver technically strong and pragmatic legal advice, emphasising successful project delivery.

Conor advises developers, contractors, investors, vendors, off-takers and funders across the full life-cycle of energy projects. His experience spans drafting, negotiating, and leading diligence of EPC, equipment supply, balance of plant, grid connection, construction and asset management, development, O&M, PPA and consultancy / services agreements. Conor has advised clients on solar, wind, battery, transmission and thermal projects and is proficient in NEC, FIDIC and LOGIC (as well as a diverse range of bespoke forms of contracts).

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Conor was an Associate on the tier 1 energy team at Mason Hayes & Curran LLP in Ireland.

SELECTED REPRESENTATIONS
  • Advised AustralianSuper on the energy and construction aspects of its significant minority investment of $2.5 billion in the Vantage Data Centres group.
  • Advised a large Irish utility on all aspects of its €300 investment to develop two 100MW dual fuel peaker power plants with hydrogen capable technology through a joint venture structure.
  • Advised solar developer Elgin Energy Services Limited on the forward sale of a portfolio of 16 solar farm projects located across Ireland (with a combined capacity to generate 191MW) to Allianz Capital Partners.
  • Advised offshore wind developers on ocean survey (geophysical and metocean) consultancy agreements for offshore wind feasibility studies.
  • Advised a large US managed fund on a €50 million joint venture with an Irish renewables developer to develop onshore wind projects.
