We advised Basketball Australia in connection with its negotiation and execution of a definitive agreement for the sale of a majority stake in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) to the Wollemi Capital Group Syndicate and the National Basketball League consortium (Consortium).
Completion of the sale transaction is set to occur in April 2025, when the Consortium will assume operational control of the WNBL. Until then, the Wollemi Capital Group Syndicate and the National Basketball League will work closely with Basketball Australia throughout the 2024/25 WNBL season to ensure a smooth transition.
Commenting on the transaction Gordon McCann, Partner said: “Hamilton Locke is thrilled to have supported Basketball Australia on this significant transaction, where all parties had a common goal, to inspire and elevate women’s basketball in Australia to new heights. We eagerly anticipate the growth of women’s basketball in Australia, under the new stewardship of NBL and Wollemi Capital.”
The Hamilton Locke deal team was led by Gordon McCann, Partner, and included Kathryn May, Special Counsel, and Lorenzo Ricchi, Lawyer.
Basketball Australia was also supported by the Eaglehawk team, including Josh Coull, Ged Dawson and Tom Cunningham.
