Tariq is a versatile and meticulous lawyer known for his expertise in dispute resolution within the energy, construction, and infrastructure sectors. With an appetite for navigating complex legal landscapes, he brings a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to his work.

His expertise encompasses all facets of dispute resolution including litigation, adjudication and arbitration, with a particular focus on alternative dispute resolution including mediation.

Tariq’s experience spans many industry sectors including construction, renewable energy, health and safety, insolvency and commercial real estate.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Tariq worked in the Professional and Financial Disputes team at Clyde & Co in Perth, Western Australia.

SELECTED REPRESENTATIONS
  • Acted for ESR Group (previously ARA Group) in respect of the negotiation of a $100M plus design and construct contract in respect of the largest commercial lease in Australia since the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • Acted for a large financial advisory and tax firm in the administration and ongoing liquidation of a civil design and construction group, which involved managing over 100 projects with a value exceeding approximately $300M across New South Wales and Victoria, negotiating the assignment of some of those projects and dealing with claims with subcontractors and principals as well as managing the exit of over 200 staff.
  • Preparing suite of construction project contracts for a major developer in respect of a four-tower mixed use development exceeding $300M.
  • Defended a $3M claim against a principal in relation to disputed claims for variations and liquidated damages claim under a construction contract.
  • Defence of security of payment claims for principals.
