Michael is known for strategically leveraging his technical ability in conjunction with his negotiation skills to deliver successful outcomes for his clients. His commercial acumen, determination and highly valued skillset make him a trusted advisor to his clients and colleagues.

Michael is a corporate lawyer specialising in mining, petroleum and natural resources law. He has extensive experience advising clients on acquisitions and divestments, project development, joint venture structuring, offtake agreements (including gas sale and transportation agreements), mineral rights sharing agreements, royalty agreements, construction and procurement contracts.

Michael’s clients include both publicly listed and private companies that operate throughout the full project cycle including exploration, development and production.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Michael worked at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Bellanhouse and Herbert Smith Freehills.

  • Advised Sheffield Holdings, LP on its acquisition of 50% of Origin’s interest in the Beetaloo Basin Gas Project in Northern Territory for consideration of US$60 million plus assumption of a carry, a 5.5% royalty and an associated 10-year gas sale agreement.
  • Advised Sichuan Road and Bridge Group Co., Ltd on its $166 million acquisition of the Colluli Potash Project in Eritrea from Danakali Limited.
  • Advised Brightstar Resources Limited on its merger with Kingwest Resources via a Scheme of Arrangement and its proposed off-market takeover of Linden Gold.
  • Advised Voltaic Strategic Resources Limited on its farm-out and joint venture of its Ti Tree Project to Delta Lithium Ltd.
  • Advised Liontown Resources Limited on its demerger of Minerals 260 Ltd and the associated $30M IPO and ASX-listing.
  • Advised Chalice Mining Limited on its demerger of Falcon Metals Ltd and the associated $30m IPO and ASX-listing.
  • Advised Doray Minerals Ltd on its $615 million merger with Silver Lake Resources by Scheme of Arrangement that resulted in Silver Lake Resources becoming a multi-asset mid-tier gold producer.
  • Advised Lithium Royalty Corporation on its acquisition of lithium royalties payable on production from Core Lithium Ltd’s mine in the Northern Territory and Galaxy Resources Ltd’s Mt Cattlin mine in Western Australia.
  • Advised New Century Resources Ltd on its project energy requirements (gas sale agreements and power purchase agreements), zinc concentrate offtake contracts and EPC and mining services contracts.
