Following the launch of the Guarantee of Origin Scheme (GO Scheme) in November 2025, the first Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates have now been approved by the Clean Energy Regulator (CER).[1]
What are REGO certificates?
REGO certificates are tradeable digital certificates, which an eligible renewable energy facility may be issued for each megawatt-hour of renewable electricity it generates or stores and dispatches.[2] These certificates track and verify renewable energy generation, offering both transparency and confidence to the sector.[3] REGO certificates can be traded or retired as evidence of the use of electricity from renewable sources and to meet renewable energy targets.[4]
REGO certificates provide details of the origin of the generation of the electricity, when and where it was generated and its status (such as whether it was retired or transferred).[5]

The first REGO certification
Ecovantage, an energy and carbon management company, is the first business to be issued REGO certificates.[6] According to the information available on the CER’s website, 7 REGO certificates were created on 11 March 2026 and registered on 28 April 2026 for renewable electricity generated or dispatched in 2026 by a registered facility in NSW.[7] Approved REGO certificates can be viewed on the register of Registered REGO Certificates here.
