Verity approaches her work with a creative lens and intense curiosity. She enjoys the challenge that intellectual property and technology legal issues present and sees it as the perfect crossover between creative industries and law, her two passions. Verity’s detail oriented approach enables her to deal with complex and detailed factual and legal problems for clients with ease.

Verity has expertise in intellectual property, technology and privacy law. She has a wealth of experience advising both small to medium enterprises and large companies and has worked with clients across a broad range of sectors, including property, education, retail, technology and entertainment. She enjoys working closely with her clients to understand their businesses thoroughly and identifies and implements efficient and practical commercial solutions.

SELECTED REPRESENTATIONS
  • Advising quick service restaurant group in relation to the development and expansion of franchising strategy, resolution of trade mark licensing issues and strategic trade mark portfolio management.
  • Acting as outsourced general counsel for a large, international Brisbane-based software company, which included general customer contract negotiation for its Software-as-a-Service platform (including a high value contract with a large international quick service restaurant provider), RFP and tender responses, assisting with negotiation of promotional partnerships, international domain name disputes, trade mark prosecution, protection and enforcement of trade marks in both domestic and international jurisdictions, development of privacy documentation and policy creation and advising in relation to Australian Consumer Law issues.
  • Working for a wave-generation technology start-up to negotiate licensing of high value proprietary intellectual property to numerous international licensees for the purpose of developing recreational surf-wave parks.
  • Advising a large domestic surf, skate and street fashion retailer in relation to trade mark protection and enforcement, IT procurement contracts, terms of trade, social influencer and agency model agreements and assisting in the review and amendment of agreements involved in the roll-out of a large digital programmatic marketing campaign.
  • Acting for an Australian encryption software provider in the negotiation of source and binary licence agreements with a variety of large customers including cyber security providers, banks and computer hardware manufacturers.
  • Secondment at international Brisbane-based digital audio recording solution company, with a focus on review of tender responses, trade mark portfolio review and management and creation and implementation of documentation, policies and procedures required for compliance with Australian Privacy Law (including Notifiable Data Breaches scheme).
  • Working for an Australian public university in the negotiation of various commercialisation agreements for the exploitation and development of agricultural technology and providing advice with respect to various funding agreements impacting the transactions.
