Robert is a performance-driven lawyer and business executive with more than 15 years’ experience spanning legal practice, strategic business leadership, and cross-border investment across New Zealand, China, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Robert is recognised for his ability to bridge legal, commercial, and cultural perspectives, and for his trusted standing within the Asian business community. Robert has acted in a wide range of complex disputes, with experience covering civil and commercial litigation as well as family law matters. He has appeared in the District, High, and Family Courts, advised and represented clients in settlement negotiations, and appeared regularly as a Crown Prosecutor.
Beyond legal practice, he has a proven track record in generating new business, expanding client pipelines, and strengthening firms’ strategic market positions. This includes building referral networks with financial and property professionals, establishing cross-border cooperation agreements with top-tier Mainland Chinese law firms, and driving initiatives that enhanced the firm’s reach and revenue within the Asian business community.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Robert held senior roles across legal, commercial, and operational functions in New Zealand, China, and the Asia-Pacific region. This included consulting on major corporate transactions, supporting an IPO, leading procurement and manufacturing operations, and developing export strategies for fast-growing businesses.
Robert also led M&A and cross-border investment projects, oversaw full operational delivery in the food and agriculture sector, and managed fundraising and international investment initiatives. Earlier in his career, Robert gained experience in litigation, compliance, and IPO preparation, building a strong foundation in both legal practice and commercial execution.
