Lisa Ward is an experienced real estate and agribusiness lawyer with nearly twenty years’ experience, specialising in property law across the agricultural sector. With a proven track record advising on complex, high-value transactions across Australia, Lisa brings a proactive and pragmatic approach to her work.

Lisa works as a trusted adviser and sounding board for all her clients. She is known for her intimate knowledge and understanding of the agriculture sector across a range of commodities including grazing, broad acre cropping, intensive livestock (dairy, pigs, feedlots and abattoirs) and horticulture.

Lisa’s expertise covers key aspects of property law relating to agribusinesses, including sale and purchase transactions, leases and water rights. She advises on due diligence for agricultural assets, landowner renewable energy projects, water compliance and Australia’s Foreign Investment Regime. Lisa also drafts and reviews a wide range of commercial agreements for agribusiness, such as agistment agreements, supply agreements, conduct and compensation agreements, grower IP agreements, share farming and bore sharing arrangements.

Lisa has extensive experience representing major institutional investors and high net worth individuals on agricultural acquisitions and operations across diverse platforms, from dairy farming and cattle breeding to vineyards, cotton gins, horticulture and forestry assets.

  • Acting for a US fund in connection with the purchase of farmland in Victoria and New South Wales for almond plantations including all work in connection with irrigation matters.
  • Representing a Canadian pension fund on an acquisition of a 1.1 million hectare property in Central Australia for nearly $100 million.
  • Acting for a pension fund on the acquisition of a cotton gin in Northern New South Wales with a transaction value around $100 million.
  • Advising a Canadian pension fund on dairy farming property acquisitions, inclusive of water and livestock in Northern Tasmania and advising on milk supply agreements.
  • Acting for a Canadian pension fund on multiple vineyard acquisitions across South Australia.
  • Advising a New Zealand superannuation fund in their acquisition of cattle breeding assets for a genetic breeding business.
  • Undertaking due diligence for a Chinese investor on various abattoirs across the Northern Territory and New South Wales.
  • Assisting an ultra-high net worth German investor in an acquisition of various horticultural assets.
  • Advising on the sale of a leasing arrangement, via a concurrent lease, of a solar farm in New South Wales.
  • Undertaking extensive and complex bidder due diligence for a forestry asset for a North American fund with $13.1 billion of assets under management.
  • Advising on the lease of a significant glasshouse asset in New South Wales.
  • Acting for a Korean chaebol investor in its first Australian acquisition of agricultural land, including obtaining FIRB approval.
  • Obtaining FIRB approval for foreign government investors and private investors from various countries including the United States of America, Canada, China, Korea, Germany and the United Kingdom.
