Hamilton Locke advises MA Financial’s growth capital team in $20 million investment in solar energy business, Upstream

Hamilton Locke is thrilled to have acted for MA Financial’s growth capital team, MA Growth Ventures, on its recent growth capital facility into Upstream (as reported on in the Australian Financial Review here). The facility will be used by Upstream to fund the equipment, installation and commissioning of solar photovoltaic panels and embedded network assets at clients’ sites.

Upstream has assisted many Australian businesses with the transition to clean energy and sustainability by empowering those businesses to produce their own affordable and reliable electricity. Upstream produces solar energy for many major clients, including ANZ and Beacon Lighting. This investment by MA Growth Ventures will enable Upstream to continue its growth via the expansion of its client base and sites – a positive for the Australian community more broadly in the journey toward sustainable energy sources.

The multi-disciplinary team at Hamilton Locke was led by Zina Edwards (Head of Finance) with her team, Monty Loughlin (Special Counsel, Finance) and Mai Dang (Lawyer, Finance).

The corporate aspects of the transaction were led by Joshua Bell (Special Counsel, Corporate), with Hamilton Locke’s New Energy team led by Matt Baumgurtel (Partner, New Energy) and Adriaan van der Merwe (Special Counsel, New Energy), Kaday Conteh (Special Counsel, Property), William Ryan (Lawyer, New Energy) and Poulad Berenjforoush (Lawyer, New Energy), assisting with the energy and property aspects of the diligence process.
