With dual qualifications in law and science, Toby specialises in transactional and advisory intellectual property, information technology and healthcare matters.
Toby advises companies ranging from medium to large multinationals on IP and IT licensing and commercialisation arrangements, rights enforcement, and the related application of Australian Consumer Law and privacy laws.
Notably during COVID-19, Toby led negotiations between clinical research companies, the Australian government, major universities and global biopharma companies in relation to manufacturing facilities, commercialisation, licensing and supply arrangements for the UQ COVID-19 and mRNA vaccines.
Toby was most recently Director of Intellectual Property and Commercialisation at Deakin University, heading up its Technology Transfer Office and working directly with researchers and start-up founders and investors. He was previously a partner in the Life Sciences team at a global law firm for over a decade.
Toby also spent a number of years producing documentaries and short films for the ABC and SBS. His work covered surrogacy, environmental conflict and Australian hip hop, and received a Logie nomination and a special mention at the Berlin International Film Festival.
