With an impressive record of representing clients in some of Australia’s most notable criminal and civil competition prosecutions, she stands as a highly sought-after legal expert.

Sophie is able to advise on managing the lifecycle of commercial and reputational risk. Sophie has acted both for regulatory agencies and advised corporations and individuals in their response to regulatory conduct.

Investigations into sophisticated fraud matters, especially those intersecting with regulatory compliance and enforcement, are a particular forte of Sophie’s. Her capabilities span providing clear and comprehensive advice on the evolving risks and intricate issues that arise throughout such legal proceedings. Sophie’s expertise is also prevalent across several jurisdictions, successfully managing litigation in State and Federal jurisdictions.

Sophie’s recent work has seen her at the legal forefront of both private individuals and corporations during high-stakes regulatory investigations, royal commissions and inquiries. Additionally, she has managed a range of large-scale matters in the trial and appellate divisions of State and Federal Courts. Demonstrating an enduring dedication to justice and equitable access to legal support, Sophie has also upheld the rights of asylum seekers in a pro bono appeal to the High Court.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke Sophie worked at Corrs Chambers Westgarth (including a secondment at the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions), Patrick & Associates, and McMahon Clarke. Sophie was awarded a competitive position representing Australia as an ambassador for development in Bangkok, Thailand, where she advocated for asylum seekers and refugees seeking international protection.

  • Represented the Treasurer of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group in the long running ACCC criminal prosecution in CDPP v Citigroup, prosecution withdrawn prior to trial.
  • Represented corporations, individuals and State government departments in relation to alleged regulatory offences by ASIC and ACCC.
  • Represented a regulatory agency in a novel enforcement investigation.
  • Confidential investigation into allegations of fraud and enforcement options for a government body.
  • Advised Victorian government department risk, risk mitigation strategies, managed investigations and enforcement of disputes in a range of matters related to the Victorian COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine programme and related Board of Inquiry.
  • Represented the State of Victoria as a member of the Solicitor Assisting team in the Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and Licence.
  • A senior member of the Solicitor Assisting team in the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Response to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.
  • Represented Meta in a defended class action in both trial and appellate divisions of the Federal Court of Australia.
  • Represented Meta in a defence of a claim alleging anti-competitive conduct and unconscionable conduct.
  • Represented individuals in misleading and deceptive conduct and unconscionable conduct claim against a fund manager.
