Joanna is a finance lawyer with substantial transaction experience gained in Australia, mainland China and Hong Kong. Her multicultural perspective enriches her problem-solving approach, allowing her to navigate complexities effortlessly. Passionate about helping clients achieve their goals, Joanna thrives in high-pressure environments, consistently delivering results within tight timelines.

Throughout her career, Joanna has acted for global financial institutions, private equity funds and non-bank lenders with a particular focus on real estate finance. She has experience advising clients on complex deals including leveraged and acquisition finance, re-finance, green loans and sustainability-linked loans.

Joanna is admitted to practice in Victoria, Australia as well as the People’s Republic of China (non-practising) and speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Joanna worked at Mayer Brown’s Hong Kong office. She also gained experience as a commercial lawyer in Melbourne and an in-house legal counsel in the financing and capital markets team of a manufacturing conglomerate with dual listing in Taiwan and Shanghai.

SELECTED REPRESENTATIONS
  • Advising a global PERE on USD71 million offshore and RMB716 million onshore green loan facilities granted by a syndicate of Banks to refinance the acquisition of a super high-rise landmark office building in a major city in China which obtained LEED gold certification.
  • Advising a syndicate of banks on USD290 million offshore senior secured syndicated term loan facilities with accordion (green shoe option to increase commitment) and RMB590 million onshore senior secured syndicated term loan facilities to provide refinancing on a portfolio basis for various high-value logistics centres and warehouses in various cities of the PRC acquired and owned by a global PERE fund.
  • Advising a syndicate of banks in relation to HK$5.29 billion senior secured financing relating to a grade A office building in Hong Kong in the post-acquisition restructuring at the project level by way of strata title spin-off to various offshore holding companies.
