Hamilton Locke Partner and Agribusiness specialist Trent Thorne is set to embark on an adventurous journey to summit Mount Everest in May.
Trent embarks on this adventure as part of his da Vinci Development initiative. We recognise there is more to life than work and our da Vinci Development Program encourages all our people to participate in an initiative that is challenging and pushes our staff members out of their comfort zone. This is the first instalment of our da Vinci Stories. In this series, we will share stories of our people and their journey on their da Vinci path.
Trent will join Adventure Consultants, a renowned New Zealand mountaineering company, on his quest to reach the summit of two of the world’s highest peaks – Mount Everest and Lhotse.
While he is in the neighbourhood summiting Mount Everest, he also plans on climbing the fourth-highest mountain in the world, Lhotse.
Trent has conquered some of the world’s most challenging peaks, including Denali in Alaska, Aconcagua in South America and Elbrus in Russia. However, his dream has always been to climb the tallest peak in the world, Mt Everest.
Trent has been preparing for at least 15 months, undergoing intense physical training. He is excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the challenges that lay ahead. Trent recognises the risks and dangers involved with climbing such high altitudes. However, Trent is determined to achieve his goal and is confident in his abilities and the expertise of his team led by Ang Dorje Sherpa, who has summited Everest 21 times to date.
Commenting on the adventure, Trent stated: “I’ve never been to Nepal and I am looking forward to trekking into base camp and getting underway with the whole process”.

About our da Vinci Development Program
Our da Vinci Development Program is an innovative initiative designed to encourage employees to participate in personal development initiatives that is challenging and pushes our staff members out of their comfort zone.
We recognise there is more to life than work and so we implemented the da Vinci Development Program that works to improve the “work-life balance” of our employees. The da Vinci Development Program aims to motivate staff members to try something new, improve or learn new skills (both soft and hard skills), enhance lifestyle and expand self-awareness.
On successful completion of the development activity, participants receive an additional five days of paid leave (pro-rata for part-time employees).
