James Crinion

Senior Associate – Funds and Financial Services

By taking a collaborative and inquisitive approach to his work, James is focused on providing practical solutions to complex problems, to help clients achieve their commercial goals. His friendly and people-centric manner is at the centre of his interactions with his team and clients.

James is a funds lawyer with considerable expertise in advising fund managers, trustees, responsible entities, fund administrators and fund registrars. He has both private practice and in-house experience. 
 
James has advised across all asset classes and scheme types, including property, equities, fixed income, commodities, private equity, hedge funds, agribusiness, credit and alternative asset schemes.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, James was senior legal counsel for One Investment Group, and previously was an associate in the funds management team at McMahon Clarke. He has also worked as a solicitor for Lavelle Solicitors in Ireland. 

In addition to being an Australian-qualified lawyer, James is admitted as a solicitor in Ireland and as an attorney and counsellor at law, State of New York, USA.

SELECTED REPRESENTATIONS

  • Establishing a bespoke registered managed investment scheme, whereby the fund acquired equitable interests in loans. This product was the first of its kind in Australia.
  • Establishing a successful listed managed investment scheme, investing in Australian debt securities and asset backed securities.
  • Coordinating and advising on the replacement of the trustee of an unregistered managed investment scheme, and associated registry and fund administration functions.
