Charlotte clearly ascertains her clients’ business needs and skilfully pursues avenues that help achieve those needs. Charlotte has experience in both front and back end legal work, including in relation to domestic and international IP protection and IP related disputes.

Charlotte’s areas of expertise include IP advisory, brand protection, IP commercialisation, IP and commercial litigation, technology procurement, e-sports and franchising law. Charlotte also has a particular interest in sports and media law. From regulatory compliance through to the application of the Competition and Consumer Act, Charlotte provides structured and tailored advice which includes the assessment of risk and obligations placed on clients, as well as the most appropriate plan to action.

Prior to joining Hamilton Locke, Charlotte worked for Macpherson Kelley, Edmund Barton Chambers and in-house at Football Australia.

  • Provided IP and technology advice to ASX-listed Raiz Invest Limited, Australia’s largest mobile-first financial services platform, in relation to its acquisition of Superestate Pty Ltd.
  • Provided IP and technology advice to Soho Property, a proptech platform by one of the Airtasker co-founders, in relation to its acquisition of the homesales.com business.
  • Successfully resolved a trade mark dispute with one of the major banks in Australia.
  • Provided international patent strategy advice to a gaming and e-sports business, and assisted in the establishment of a patent portfolio concerning the client’s innovative e-sports platform.
  • Provided detailed advice to a client in relation to the establishment of a domain catcher business, including advice in relation to the Australian Domain Administrator regulatory body’s rules and regulations governing registrar conduct.
  • Provided IP advice to a client in relation to the acquisition of a multi-million-dollar business which manufactured and serviced heavy mining equipment.
  • Successfully advised an ASX-listed luxury online fashion brand in relation to an Australian Consumer Law complaint.
  • Acted for a group of companies who were opposing a trade mark registration for a commonly-used descriptive phrase within the urban planning industry.
  • Advising a franchisor client in relation to a large promotional/advertising campaign which had an important gaming regulation and Australian Consumer Law element, as well as providing separate advice in relation to liquor requirements under the liquor regulatory bodies in various Australian states.
  • Acted for and negotiated on behalf of multiple franchisees in relation to a large dispute with a franchisor with a large focus on social media content.
